Who’s who in fertility? A medical fieldwork guide… September 6, 2016 What is reproductive medicine? Reproductive medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and management of disorders and diseases of the reproductive organs. It is estimated that one in seven couples – that’s approximately 3.5 million people in the UK – have difficulty conceiving, making fertility a really important area for medical fieldwork.Reproductive specialists help patients deal with two types of infertility: primary infertility, where the patient has never conceived a child, and secondary infertility, where a person is having difficulty conceiving again after one or more previous pregnancies. Fertility specialists also help to treat and manage conditions such as irregular ovulation, blockage of the fallopian tubes, endometriosis and low sperm count, as well as unexplained infertility. The end goal of reproductive medicine is improving or maintaining reproductive health as well as enabling people to have children at the time of their choosing. Back to blogs written by GKA
